the common man should be on substack
It's healthier to produce content, rather than to just passively consume it. You use your brain a lot more.
Towards this end, I feel it's absolutely appropriate that many of my friends are making Substack newsletters these days. (I acknowledge that I am part of a bubble). Substacks and content creation should not be reserved for people who want a massive audience, or people that want to monetize their content.
The common man should be on Substack. He should have a dozen followers that are friends and family and publish regularly, making sense of his life and the content he consumes, having fun thinking about his interests.
Producing doesn't have to mean Substack, of course. Talking to your friends, journaling, commenting on Reddit, or doing projects (e.g. dance, programming, language learning) are all wonderful ways of producing instead of consuming.
My main point though - when a friend makes a Substack, the sentiment should NOT be "who does she think she is, does she want to be an influencer or something." It should be "oh wow, it's awesome she's doing something healthy for herself"
The internet has gotten super skewed towards most people lurking instead of producing. Let's change that!
