discographies

What artists have you listened to the full discographies of?

I started asking my friends that question. It reveals which artists they hold closest to their hearts.

On Spotify, we're inundated with hits. We don't generally listen to albums front to back, or dive into an artist's early content.

So when we do, it means the artist is meaningful to us, or struck us in some way.

In the last few years I've gotten into the full discographies of two artists: BTS and mxmtoon. I've listened to 90+% of their content.

You might finish an artist's hits and feel down, if you feel there's nothing left to listen to. I felt that with BTS.

But don't fret:

1. Artists have hidden gems.

2. Even if a song isn't a complete bop, individual verses can be.

Noobs appreciate hits and novelty, while veterans appreciate depth and nuance.

Of course, other kinds of artists have discographies.

  • I've watched all the movies directed by Makoto Shinkai.
  • I've read all the books and short stories written by J.D. Salinger.
  • I've listened to all the talks put out by Michael Singer.
