they weren’t just posts. they were turning points
Writing changes you:
- You start keeping yourself accountable to what you write
- You start understanding your subject matter more deeply
The combination of the two has definitely changed my life.
Here are some posts that changed me. Specifically, the crystallization + subtle accountability changed me:
- the hidden cost of keeping secrets (your mental health) — writing this piece made me a lot more accountable to sharing and being vulnerable. Night and day difference
- do it now (how to get the smol things done) — crystallized my main gap in being an effective, reliable person and gave me a clear action to work on. My younger self would have killed for this!
- 7 simple ways to be as assertive as a New Yorker — crystallized what boundaries mean, crystallized that people are strong. even more importantly, I started to believe that
- your life is meaningful (how to see that) — crystallized how to find meaning, I used to have many spirals about meaning but I really don't anymore
- The point of life is to enjoy it — 2021 post. this won't resonate for everyone but honestly this is a big part of my life philosophy and made me who I am. I reference this concept handle in my head A LOT. Related. Think more Epicureanism than plain hedonism
- better to die sharp in war than rust through a time of peace — counterpoint to the bullet point above, it made me feel accountable to keep challenging myself and that was huge in the last yr
- write a declaration of happiness. here's mine. here I made the choice to be happy and above all that is what I want to be accountable to :)
I'm leaving off so many. I've written 400+ posts now! But these really were the turning points.
This came up bc I wrote this throwaway post last week that created subtle accountability for me to call friends (I never called friends before that post, it was just an intention) and now I've built a calling habit (instead of music or podcast, speaking of production over consumption) mostly as a consequence of needing something to write about that day.
Weird small accountabilities like this pop up as I write posts and this is such an underrated benefit of writing
